A taster version of the RYA Marine Radio On-line training is available you can try the Course also known as the Short Range Certificate (SRC) here and then book this very popular training here

In order to come in line with European requirements the VHF course was changed in 2014.

To get the VHF (SRC) Licence you must now:

  1. Attend the VHF Radio Classroom Course OR
    Take the On-line Course
  2. Attend and pass a seperate Assessment session

You do not have to book your Assessment at the same time as booking a course.

If you opt for the On-line course you must still attend an assessment session in person. You cannot take the assessment On-line.

The Short Range Certificate is the minimum qualification required by law to control the operation of VHF and VHF Digital Selective Calling (DSC) equipment on any British flagged vessel voluntarily fitted with a radio. This includes both fixed and hand held equipment using International channels.

It is a legal requirement that if you are going to use a VHF radio you or someone on board must have a VHF Radio License. All charter companies require you to have a license if you charter a boat.
