After receiving additional COVID-19 advice from the RYA we have taken the decision to postpone all recreational RYA Marine Radio Licence Assessments until the National Lockdown is eased. Under normal circumstances these events would sake place every other Thursday at North Staffs Sailing Club, Stanley Reservoir, Puddy Lane, Stanley, Stoke-on-Trent, ST9 9LS. If you require an Assessment for Commercial use or to book a place for future events then please get in touch via our Contact form here so we can agree a date/time for your Assessment.

Conduct of the assessment:

Prior to the exam you will be allowed approx. 30 min to familiarise yourself with the controls, menus and functions of Simrad RD68 radios we will be using during the session. You will be provided with handbooks along with a 'Quick start' guide for the Radios and may have any books, training material you require with you at this time. All these will be removed prior to the practical exam starting.

Practical assessment:

This session will last 30 minutes per candidate and you will have access to a dedicated training radio for the duration of the Assessment.

Theory assessment paper:

The written paper has a time limit of 30 minutes. Additional time may be allowed for those who have reading problems such as those with dyslexia. The MCA guidance is to allow 8 minutes for this length of exam. The written paper is a 'closed book 'exam.
